Eurodonk
I put in a marathon 12 hour session online yesterday, electing to play the evening tournaments instead of going to the Loose Cannon for a live game. I cashed twice, but unfortunately lost big coinflips when looking to move up to the big money in those tournaments and ended up £298 down for the session, after adding back my bounties for the knockout tournies I played.
Amusingly I was called “Eurodonk” by some Americans both on Full Tilt AND Pokerstars during the course of the evening.
Eurodonk episode 1:
I am the loosest player on the table and have a stack of about 19k, average 12k. I raise in mid position with to 1200, and the guy next to act, who hasn’t played a hand for about an hour shoves his 2300 in behind me. Uh-oh. Well I have to call, and am pleased to see him flip AQ and I promptly outflop him. Cue a 2 minute tirade from the tournament evictee in the chatbox.
Eurodonk episode 2:
I am playing a huge 65k stack in the Pokerstars rebuy with about 50 players left. I am in the SB, and blinds are 500-1000. Folded to the button who shoves for 4k. I find K5 which should be miles ahead of his range, so I re-shove to isolate him and get the BB playing 22k to fold. The button in fact has Arag, but I get there and get the eurodonk treatment again.
I misplayed a couple of JJ hands. When approaching the bubble in the FT $120 knockout tournament. My stack is 17k which is about average, and find JJ UTG. I make my standard raise to 1.8k, and am immediately repopped to 5.5k by next to act. I guess his hand is so likely to crush me here, but I decide to call and shove, first to act, if it is a low flop, thus eliminating me having to race with AK. A low flop arrives and I shove and get snap called by KK. I guess I should just pass pre-flop there, as my stack is still very workable.
The second JJ hand was a little more interesting. On PS we were at that stage of the tournament where a lot of short stacks are shoving, and a big stack limps UTG, which was odd considering someone had gone all in the previous 5 hands in a row. Hmm - I put him firmly on AA or KK. The button shoves for 12k and I am sitting on about 30k. I find JJ in the BB, which normally would be an instant re-shove. However, I go with my “read” and pass, and UTG then insta-passes :(
I’ve got Monday morning off work, so I’m going to give the Sunday tournaments a go this week. My game isn’t quite there at the moment, but I don’t think it will take much to get it in full working order. I accumulated big stacks in about 70% of the tournaments I played last night, so I must be doing something right.
As always, I watched poker tube while playing last night, and I’ll leave you will a classic from Norman Chad.
Billy Gazes comments “You can sleep with a poker player’s wife, but just don’t Hollywood him”
Chad “Lon, I’ve been playing poker all my adult life, and only just found out that you are allowed to sleep with the other players’ wives. This truly IS a great game”
