Loose Cannon Sit and Go Night
Only 8 runners for a couple of SnGs at LC on Tuesday night. Regulars were myself, Shazbo, Rhys (the Welsh rock), Professor Geoff and the two uber-aggressive players Viv and Tony. Added to this, the dealer Honest Dave agreed to play. We also had a new player, Paul, complete with Bon Jovi haircut (think Keep The Faith album, as opposed to the unruly mop that was Slippery When Wet).
I chopped with Dave for the first game, and placed second in the next to Tony, so was happy with £100 profit to claw me level for my live play this year.
Not much to report but a couple of interesting hands from the games:
Hand 1
Bon Jovi raises UTG to 300 - all pass to me in the big blind and I call with J10 off. (I am playing 3k and BJ is sitting on a stack of 6k after Tony blew a gasket and called his all in with 6 8).
Flop Q, 10, 2 rainbow.
BJ bets 400 into it. I call (this is a loose call as BJ has been playing tight, but I feel if I hit a 10 or a J I can double up here if I play it right).
Sure enough a second 10 pops up on the turn. Check, Check.
River is a brick, so there is 1550 in the pot. Standard play is to put in a 700 bet here and try and bleed a call, but I think BJ won’t fall for this. I decide to overbet the pot by pushing and this works, as BJ doesn’t believe I have the 10 and calls with his queen.
Hand2
I raise 4 handed against Honest Dave with A5 diamonds. He is the only caller in the big blind. 750 in the pot
Flop 5, 8, 9 (one diamond)
Dave bets 400, I call.
Turn is the Queen of diamonds
Dave checks. He has a big stack, and probably has my 5 beat. However, he doesn’t like the Queen so I guess he has the 8 or the 9 - doubt he has a pair as he would have repopped me 4 handed (unless a huge pair and is trapping but then why lead out on the flop) Anyway, putting this together I decide to push with the 5 and the nut flush draw for 3k. It’s enough to hurt his stack badly so he can’t call it lightly. I have the flush draw as an escape hatch if my bluff gets caught, but obviously I want Dave to fold. Dave reluctantly folds and says he had the 9. Hand3
I get a bit of abuse for this hand. I am short stacked with about 2500, blinds 200-400. UTG I find J10 and raise to 1200. Tony calls as does Shazbo in the big blind (Note both these players would re-raise with AA-JJ and wouldn’t try to trap).
Flop Q,9,2 rainbow
I am first to act and push. Tony folds, but Shazbo calls with Q9 for 2 pair.
King pops out on the turn and I win the pot.
I am happy with this play. My raise pre-flop could mean a monster for all they know, and given I missed the J high or 10 high flop, the flop couldn’t have gone much better. I’m only getting called by the Queen so I thought this was worth the risk as I was toast if I was down to 1200 chips anyway.
Hand4
Heads up with Tony. I make up the blinds with 10 4 clubs. He checks, Flop is 2, 2, 7. Check Check. Turn is a 4. Tony bets the pot, I call. River is an Ace. Tony overbets the pot to about 120%. I have to think about this one - Tony is a VERY aggressive player - he would certainly have raised with an Ace. A total bluff on the turn is also consistent with his style. I feel he either has a 2, or I’m winning so I call and win the pot with the 4.

I think it is worth mentioning that on hand 3 (when Dungbeetle beat me), the abuse he received was not because of his play… more the fact that he could not stop laughing uncontrollably at his win after he had stolen most of my chips when I had top pair after the flop when most of the betting took place.
Dungbeetle was suitably ‘dissed’ by the table for his untimely laughter… which.. by the way… did not stop… I now plan to seek revenge at the League night on Thursday at Loose Cannons - watch out Dungbeetle!! :-)
